Messgae from the VPA President Dr. Halekote Viswamithra, TX

February 2008
Greetings Office Bearers and Board of Trustees!

I am delighted to be writing to all of you as the President of the Vokkaliga Parishat of America (VPA), that has flourished as a great organization. I thank all the past Presidents and their teams in making this happen. We thank previous convention organizers B.J. Arun, President , Sumanth Venugopal, Secretary and their team in making the last convention a memorable event at San Jose , CA . Those of us who attended the convention enjoyed the hospitality , entertainment and the social gathering.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new VPA Secretary, Dinesh Gowda, and our new VPA Treasurer, Malini Lakshman. Both of them have already been instrumental in keeping the business of VPA running smoothly as we undergo the Biennial calendar shifts of officers and committee chairs. I’d like to recognize the contributions of our outgoing secretary Sumanth Venugopal , our previous treasurer, Vasanthi Gowda and all other committee members

It is a delight to welcome Dr. Shiva Satish as our new Vice President. He served as VPA South Secretary for 2006-07and has been instrumental in organizing our events successfully for the past 2 years.

Hema Kantharaju and Dayashankar Adappa have been serving VPA for many years. I welcome them on board as Joint Secretary and Joint Treasurer respectively.

I welcome the newly elected Board of Trustees and look forward to working with them on advancing important agendas during this term.

Some of the goals I want to achieve with my team and your cooperation during the years 2008 and 2009 are
To strengthen VPA at regional level ( Chapters)
To identify, recognize and keep in touch with new members of vokkaliga community who come to north America for various reasons. If possible make them members of VPA.
Strengthen Youth chapters and their activities
More Charitable Work in India .
Next year’s national convention will be held on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in Texas . An Exploratory committee has been actively working in finalizing the convention location. I will provide an update as soon the convention location contract has been signed.

If you have ideas for additional ways that VPA might continue to add more members, including thoughts on the possibility of a national VPA recruiting seminars, and ideas for bringing VPA into greater public visibility in terms of charity and community service spirit, please contact me at halekoteviswa@aol.com. I look forward to seeing many of you in Chicago , IL at the AKKA convention this coming September.

With all best wishes,

Halekote N. Viswamitra
VPA President, 2008-2009
